Rain City Fencing Center presents
A Competitive Foil and Epee Camp With Gia Abashidze

Foil 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Epee 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM
The fee for each camp is $249.
Campers should have at least two years of fencing experience and be currently competing. Minimum age is 11.
The camp will focus on refining tactics and mechanics through footwork, paired drills, and critical bouting.
Coach Abashidze will be assisted by the RCFC coaching staff.
Gia Abashidze is in his third year as assistant coach at Penn State and brings a long list of collegiate and international coaching experience with him. For six seasons he was the assistant coach of the Ohio State fencing team. Originally from Georgia, USSR, he has coached fencing for almost 25 years. He was instrumental in helping the Buckeyes to the NCAA title in 2004, 2006 and 2008. Abashidze was a six-time USSR national foil champion and twice competed for the Soviet National Team. During his career he also placed second at the European Cup and won a World Cup in Hungary. Abashidze placed first at the 1998 World Masters Games and has experience with the Georgian national foil team. During his tenure in the United States he has trained several athletes for the US National Team, including Monique DeBruin (foil) and Tasha Martin (foil) in 1997 and Cody Mattern (epee) in 2000 and 2003. Other recent students include Andras Horanyi, the 2007 and 2008 NCAA winner (OSU) who placed second in the 2008 U.S. Olympic Trials in foil, and Hanna Thompson, Silver medalist at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
