Soon after I enter my full name in the installation process I get an error message saying

"There has been an error.
Error changing group of /opt to rvm
The application will exit now"

I re-unzipped the application and in subsequent attempts I got a slightly different error message saying

"There has been an error.
Error changing group of /opt/rix to rvm
The application will exit now"

Being completely new to this game, I haven't the slightest idea what this means.
Any help?
PS I am trying to get this on to a 2011 macbook pro.
Thanks a lot.

Hi,

Please make sure and search the group posts as well as Github issues. This is known and we are working on a fix.

Thanks,
Evan

I'm encountering the same issue on May 4. I'll continue to review the forums on Git and wherever else it leads me.

I'm surprised that there isn't a posted fix by now. That's not a criticism, just an observation. I'm sure I'll find the corrective step but if anyone can lead me there quicker, I'd appreciate it!

Thanks!

Larry

Just to add in here, I'm having the same exact problem with my MBP...same fail. Any solution on the horizon?

Best,
JW

Hi there,

We currently don't have a solution yet but hopefully soon.

Thanks,

I posted a solution two days ago, but it was deleted. What gives?

Kirk, where did you post it?

Here. That deleted message was mine. It was the same solution that was on GitHub, but I didn't see that one. Over the years I just got into the habit of doing a system restart as a default first step when I get install errors for anything.

Looks like I just now got the moderator email because that message was flagged as spam, go figure? I approved it so should show up AFAIK

Guys, finally, what's the solution? Thanks in advance

Restart your machine after the app shuts down because of the error. Rerun the app first thing when your machine reboots. It should install without a hitch. I have no idea why it works, but it does.

Cheers!

I had the same problem and I think I solved it. YOU HEAR THAT WORLD!? I SOLVED IT!

I'm not quite positive yet because it is still downloading but it has been doing that for a couple minutes compared to the error thrown after a couple seconds.

OK, so, what you have to do is close out of all of your accounts on your macbook accept for your main admin account that you use.

I'm ready to accept my medal.

Jared out!

Just restart your computer. Once I did, it installed without a glitch. Awesome!
