Hi, me again.
I
thought I'd send through another update to clarify some things based on
questions I've been fielding - lots of first timers at this camp (yay!)
and I've realised that there is some stuff I've taken which I've not
actually highlighted.
THERE
IS NO INTERNET!! sorry, too late, your ticket is not refundable. You'll
have to talk to people instead <= this is intentional and the whole
point of the camp. :-) Well, we're not providing internet anyways,
although there is now reasonable cell coverage for if you're oncall etc…
We looked at getting some cell jammers, but apparently that's illegal…
We'll
have our OWN INTRANET with at least a very recent gem mirror and
twetter running on it. I've also heard that someone else is bringing a
mirror of other useful things such as Homebrew and Stackoverflow.
Additionally, I've arranged for a blank Github Enterprise instance to be
running, so everyone can push their fav open source repos to that for
sharing, and general ease of collaboration etc... If you want something
not just mentioned, make sure to grab a copy of it as part of your
packing procedures.
Anyone know about mirroring different version of Ruby for RVM and rbenv?? please contact me.
WE
PROVIDE FOOD - breakfast, lunch, dinner and some snacks. Also we have a
good supply of fancy fizz/juice, cider (3 types this year) and beer. By
all means please bring your own snacks and drinks, but we've got
everyone covered for if nobody does. Oh also, if any one has any spare
vanilla vodka, that goes great with the bundaberg ginger beer we have.
Just saying.
Follow
Ford Prefect's advice and BRING A TOWEL. Also a sleeping bag, a pillow
etc.. Cabin wise all we're providing is a mattress on a bed/bunk and a
shower so you'll need to bring everything else yourself. Maybe a torch
too as it can get pretty dark in our little village, great for spotting
werewolves I hear. There is a supermarket at the train station where the
buses are leaving from, great for last minute deodorant purchases for
example.
We're
gonna have a designated area for SNORERS. You know who you are, we
don't although will after the first night. But I suggest that if you're
like me and a sensitive sleeper you bring earplugs just in case.
COFFEE,
it will be there don't worry. Probably just like last the first NZ
Railscamp (still just finalising it at present). But again if you wanna
bring your own gear, an Aeropress for example, feel free to shun our
coffee.
If you're getting yourself there, please don't turn up before 3pm as I won't be there to protect you from the wild Moa.
If you get lost in your attempts to find the buses on Platform 9 at the Wellington train station (
http://goo.gl/maps/MKjjW)
or something else unexpected happens and you need to contact us, phone
numbers are in the update sent directing to ticket holders.
Not
got a seat on the bus, but now want one? We've still got some spare
seats, send me an email. Or now not needing your seat on the bus? (in
both directions), please let me know if you've not already done so.
