The Founder Institute vision is to Globalize Silicon Valley by creating and fostering local startup ecosystems in promising markets across the globe. The Institute aims to help launch 1,000 technology companies per year in over 30 cities worldwide by using expert training and feedback from local and global mentors (some notable mentors include Adeo Ressi, Aaron Patzer from Mint.com, and Phil Libin from Evernote).

To move forward, a sufficient number of interested applicants need to apply using the interest form by this Sunday, October 30th.

In Seattle (which has a pretty huge start-up scene) we used to have drinks every week where startups could meet local VC/Angel funders and discuss ideas. I'd love to see something like that here. Sort of like a pre-Y-combinator scene where you could pitch your ideas, get feedback, guidance criticism, and see what others were doing. It was also an awesome way to shop for people and jobs.
Fwiw I'd love to see something like this in Brisbane :).
