Will the rails-i18n foundation work be available for Rails 2.1 as a separate plugin ?

Let me start by saying that I deeply respect the work done to build a
core foundation for i18n in Rails as done with this project. The
upcoming Rails 2.2 will be much more solid with it!!! Now the only
problem is waiting until Rails 2.2 is released with rails-i18n
integrated :-)

Two questions:
1) Any plans for the rails-i18n patch to be relased as a plugin that
works under standard rails 2.1 also, so that Rails projects and
related internationalization plugins can be developed and tested on
both Rails 2.1 and Rails 2.2+

2) Any advice for developers just getting started with new Rails 2.1
projects that are multilingual (and open to what plugins/methods to
use) and want to be able to easily upgrade to Rails 2.2 ?

Cheers,
Morten

Well, the saying goes that "edge is more stable than stable, so use
edge". ;)

Of course not everybody is able to implement that ...

No, there are no such plans, yet. We've been busy enough with what's
there so far.

As the api's are quite a bit different, I'd suggest to just start your
new project on Rails edge instead of 2.1

Shouldn't be too long until 2.2 will be released anyway.
