Dear All,

I'm delighted to present to you all the latest draft for the RadioEPG Technical Specification. This takes into account all the latest feedback and proposals on the group and other changes. Highlights include:

* Document compression guidelines
* XSI Service Filtering implementation (using querystring parameters)
* Guidance on bearer matching by a device
* Moved Bearer URI construction to its own section at the end of the document for greater clarity
* Clarification on service provider inclusion of bearer URIs for FM (ie. including BOTH forms of GCC to help a device).
* Reworded some sections for greater clarity
* Tried to rationalise use of language regarding device/client/service provider to fit the proper context

Probably the most important things to review are the additional sections of Service Filtering and Bearer Matching, but please do think again whether this provides a good fit for your purposes. Its of vital importance we get this right, ready for ratification.

My original plan was to get this ticked off and ready by the end of this week, although a follow up email from myself may reveal why this may not be achievable. However, I would like to receive any feedback by 09:00 (GMT) Tuesday 10th April. Again, if you just want to give it a thumbs up then please do feel free to say.

You can find the specification here:

Many thanks,

Ben

It appears as though the link I gave you went astray over the last couple of days when the radiodns.org was updated (which incidentally is a cracking update, very good stuff).

I've corrected this now - make sure whatever draft you reveal corresponds with the date indicated, in this case: 2012-04

Dear All,

Just a quick note saying that, happily, I have received no objections to the content of the specification, therefore I shall be sending it to the RadioDNS steering board for ratification next week as our initial specification.

There is still a discussion to be had about the project name, although this is mainly a question of marketing and does not affect the technical aspects of the specification.

So this really is one giant leap for the RadioDNS project as a whole - RadioEPG gives us the glue that makes Hybrid radio happen, and I'm really pleased that we have arrived upon a simple method for devices, broadcasters and directory service providers alike.

I'm also immensely grateful for all the feedback I've had - it really could not have been possible with that. Too many people to acknowledge, but you all know who you are.

The draft specification will now be un-drafted (so to speak) and turned into a release version. I've also done some work this week to check over the XSD and schema aspects of the project, and we've tweaked it slightly to use a new schema domain at: schemas.radiodns.org. Again, these are not functional changes, but they allow us to better move from prototypes to production.

I will update the documentation link on the radiodns.org site to reflect this, and also when the specification is ratified.

I'm looking forward to seeing more implementations of RadioEPG from all sorts of organisations - remember that this list exists as a community, so any questions on implementation are welcome. I'll also work at doing a simple HOWTO and put some examples online.

Kind Regards,

Ben Poor
