to RadioDNS Announcements
Hello,

You're receiving this e-mail because you asked to be kept up to date
with the RadioDNS project - the project that is working on the
convergence of broadcast and internet technologies. Our website is at
http://radiodns.org and this is a mailing from our low-traffic
announcements list.

Contents:
* RadioDNS is presented worldwide - interest keeps growing
* RadioDNS trials and launches continue
* RadioDNS standard stable
* Formalisation of the RadioDNS project in next few months

[** RadioDNS is presented wordwide **]

RadioDNS has now presented a wide range of conferences and forums in
Europe, Australasia and The Americas, and to groups covering both
analogue and digital broadcasting. The latest conference reports are
at http://radiodns.org/latest . Feedback has been unanimously
positive, and the number of companies receiving these announcements
has grown to well over 100, representing all aspects of the
broadcasting ecosystem, and from most parts of the world. If you're
interested (maybe someone has forwarded this e-mail to you), you can
join the list at http://radiodns.org/discussions/

[** RadioDNS trials and launches continue **]

RadioDNS has been in an informal alpha test now since the end of 2008,
which has given the project participants a lot of opportunity to check
that the standard is working in practice.

A number of radio device manufacturers have implemented prototypes of
RadioDNS technologies, and have reported that it was easy to integrate
into their existing connected devices. Similarly, a number of
broadcasters have trialled RadioDNS applications; the BBC's trials
were published on their RAD blog ( http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/rad/2009/02/experiments_with_radiodns.html
) and Global Radio has used RadioDNS as the basis of its award winning
iPhone and Symbian mobile applications ( http://www.capitalradio.co.uk/on-air/listen-capital-iphone/
). One broadcaster holds the shortest deployment record, putting a
prototype RadioVIS service together in less than a day. All the
technologies used in RadioDNS are open source, and there is no
declared IPR.

Broadcasters who would like to populate DNS with their station details
are welcome to contact the project team on feed...@radiodns.org to
discuss import formats.

[** RadioDNS Standard Stable **]

The RadioDNS Standard has now been stable for 6 months (at v0.6).
There have been a small number of minor change requests, which will be
published as v0.7 in a few weeks. It is our intention to publish v1.0
around September 2009.

The associated application standards continue to develop. RadioVIS is
likely be stabilised earliest, around September. RadioEPG and RadioTAG
continue to be worked on, and input into these standards is welcomed.

[** Formalisation of RadioDNS **]

With all this positive activity, it's clear that RadioDNS is
fulfilling a useful purpose, and now needs a permanent structure.

The project intends to ask its participants for two things in the
following weeks:
* Permission to publicise your interest in RadioDNS - until now, we
haven't actively publicised the membership of the project, allowing
people to experiment and trial. It would help the project enormously
to be able promote the people who are supporting it, but will of
course ask for permission to name you or your organisation first.
* Assemble a project steering team, who will put together formal rules
for how RadioDNS will be run and how we should provide the basis of a
permanent service. We'll be asking for people to nominate themselves
or others in the next couple of weeks, with a view to putting a team
together by August.

Please watch this announcement list for more details, and how to make
nominations.

The RadioDNS Project website (http://radiodns.org ) always has the
latest information on it, and details of how to contact the project co-
ordinators.
