R/O Tony Dewsbury of Seldec Publications has been kind enough to  email me a prototype of a USA type R/R clock.

USA type radio room clock

Tony has silvered the face so that the white local hour hand will show.

Tony is currently trying to source a manufacturer who makes brass clock cases that either hinge or unscrew as the current case only opens from the rear - making changing the local time indicator difficult when your ship is going through different time zones (or when changing from Daylight Time to Standard Time).

R/O Dewsbury also has a radio controlled clock movement which sets the clock to the radio signals produced on 60 kHz by MSF in the UK, WWVB in the USA and JJY in Japan.  If sufficient interest is displayed, he can probably find (perhaps with your assistance) a source of radio controlled clock movements for HBG in Switzerland and DCF77 in Germany - both of which operate on different frequencies.  I believe that multi-country receivers are available.  Also it is possible to receive WWVB in South America at night.  (Those outside of the UK should ask Tony if the clock can be set to different time zones such as you require before ordering.)

Using this radio controlled type movement would eliminate the problem of going from standard time to daylight time and taking apart the case!  Of course you'd need to place this clock so it has a "view" of the transmitting station if you go the radio setting option.

Any comments on the looks or suggestions?

Those of you with connections to clock supplies might be able to make very valuable suggestions.

R/O Tony Dewsbury's other R/R clocks (not this yet as it is "born today") are on this page:

CR/O Dewsbury also has a radio controlled clock movement which sets the clock to the radio signals produced on 60 kHz by MSF in the UK, (IT IS UNLIKELY THAT THE UK RADIO CONTROL UNIT WILL WORK RELIABLY IN THE USA OR JAPAN, Which is why MFG install a different unit in their Radio Controlled products sold in the UK)WWVB in the USA and JJY in Japan. (Those outside of the UK should ask Tony if the clock can be set to different time zones such as you require before ordering.) (THE CURRENT RADIO CONTROLLED MOVEMENT WILL OPERATE IN THE UK, IRELAND NORTHERN & WESTERN AREAS OTHER AREAS DOUBTFUL)

Using this radio controlled type movement would eliminate the problem of going from standard time to daylight time and taking apart the case!(ONE DOES NOT HAVE TO TAKE APART THE CASE)  Of course you'd need to place this clock so it has a "view" of the transmitting station if you go the radio setting option.

Thanks Tony,

I thought you had said that setting the secondary hour hand was difficult to do as the case had to be opened.  In other words - all time setting can be done from the rear of the clock, except setting the local white hand?  Or can everything be set independently from the rear?  Would you come back on this so the folks know?  We have three clock makers and at least one clock repairman in this group, that's why I asked about the front opening clock cases.

My information about the time codes being the same from each station isn't right.  The different stations use slightly different time codes.  I did find a clock movement that received all three stations - so I assumed (there is that word again, ass+u+me+d, and I make an ass out of myself) that the codes were all the same.  Nope!  Different codes - but there are receivers that will do international time.

Hey guys, trust Tony, he sells the clocks!  I'm just the fellow that digs a hole and jumps in.
