Subject: Special Issue on Advances in Learning Classifier Systems - Deadline Extended

Our apologies if you receive multiple copies of this announcement.

*** DEADLINE EXTENDED TO January 8 2012 ***

=====================================================================

Special Issue on Advances in Learning Classifier Systems

Evolutionary Intelligence, Springer (http://www.springer.com/12065)

Guest Editors: Daniele Loiacono, Albert Orriols-Puig, Ryan Urbanowicz

=====================================================================
Learning Classifier Systems are a genetic-based machine learning
paradigm introduced by Holland in 1976. They are rule-based systems
which allow different representations, rule discovery mechanisms, and
credit assignment schemes. Current applications of Learning
Classifier Systems range from data mining to on-line cognitive
control.

Learning Classifier Systems are a very active research field with a
dedicated workshop (the International Workshop on Learning Classifier
Systems - IWLCS) organized every year since 1999.
Recently, parallelization and application of LCSs to data mining
problems are receiving a great deal of attention. In addition, the
field also benefits from advances in reinforcement learning, adaptive
filtering, and machine learning that are continuously exploited to
improve and extend LCSs.

The aim of this special issue is to bring together recent advances as
well as the most promising applications of Learning Classifier
Systems.
To this purpose, we encourage the submission of extended versions of
IWLCS 2010-2011 contributions, as well as the submission of novel
contributions ranging from cutting edge research to future outlooks.

Topics of interests include but are not limited to:

- Paradigms of LCS (Michigan, Pittsburgh, ...)
- Theoretical developments (behavior, scalability and learning
  bounds, ...)
- Representations (binary, real-valued, oblique, non-linear,
  fuzzy, ...)
- Types of target problems (single-step, multiple-step,
  regression/function approximation,...)
- System enhancements (competent operators, problem structure
  identification and linkage learning, ...)
- LCS for Cognitive Control (architectures, emergent behaviours, ...)
- Applications (data mining, medical domains, bioinformatics, ...)

*Submission Format*

Manuscripts should be prepared according to the instructions
available at http://www.springer.com/12065 (under "Information for
Authors" section) and submission should be done on-line at
http://www.editorialmanager.com/evin/

*Important dates*

Paper submission deadline: January 8, 2012 (EXTENDED)
Notification to authors: February 27, 2012 (EXTENDED)
Camera-Ready submission: March 26, 2012 (EXTENDED)
