May 2013: Integrating Magical Weapons Into Your Stories
Do you want to learn more about magical weapons (wands, cups, swords, staffs, grimoires, altars, and other enchanted objects) and full-fledged weapon systems (as used in mythology and folklore, novels, movies, and video games)? Are you looking to enhance your writing with “realistic” weapons for use in battles or, maybe, even preventing battles? Certainly, there’s not much to a story if a character waves a wand and, without any personal or magical flaw, weakness, or countermeasure, destroys her foes with a single flick of her wrist.
In our May 7th meeting, Wayne Brown (of Rochester’s Astronomicon SF conventions and Rochester Fantasy Fans fame) will provide a magical weapons primer and lead a discussion on how using these fantastical objects in intelligent ways might help you better tell your stories and keep your readers engaged.
