Hello

I'm revisiting the redundant qlab machine question here for a moment. I've gotten a friend hooked on qlab and talked into running a proper redundant setup. He's even gotten a duck's echo controller - woo hoo.

So controlling two computers by splitting the midi from the ducks echo unit is easy. having two machines with two interfaces is pretty easy as well.

How might I recommend to him to switch audio output and midi output (which feeds a digital mixer and a lighting desk)? I was spoiled and toured with a CueOne system, so I had it as good as it gets for one button hot swapping to a redundant system. I understand that Gary and CueOne are no longer manufacturing their units? Maybe something a little simpler for my performer friend who has great intentions of having a rock solid show with good production values but a limited budget?

There probably is something out there by MidiSolutions that would work on the midi switching side. Anyhow and input on this part of the redundant system most appreciated. I can get his computer and audio side rocking pretty easily otherwise. What is the closest thing to a CueOne system. Maybe the NY shops make something else custom? Let me know on or off list and I'll pass on the info accordingly. (while making note of that for myself)

What format is the audio in? Analog? ADAT? MADI?

Lots of options depending on what, I'll throw some ideas at you if you
give a bit more specifics.

Hey Paul,

For audio switching, I usually try to be sure to have plenty of console inputs, and just use a couple of mute groups.

I've only done MIDI switching once, and we were on a tight budget. Remember those old beige rotary switch boxes to switch printers? I built something pretty similar into a rackmount box with a rotary switch. I'm sure there are better ways, but it worked. I'm actually gearing up to build another one with 2 MIDI lines, and I'll probably have it downtown at some point, if you want to check it out.

Neither of these solutions are terribly sexy, but they've been effective when on a budget...
