The following article from Dialogue Newspaper deserves the
widest possible circulation. It documents just one example
of the betrayal over the last two decades of
English-speaking Canadians living in the province of Quebec
by their so-called community leaders. We salute Maurice
King for his insight.

Obit for Joan Fraser (by Maurice King)

The editor of the Montreal Gazette, Joan Fraser, has
announced her resignation’ as the Gazette's editor-in-chief.
Those of us who have watched with horror the betrayal, by
the Gazette, of the community of which it claims to be the
voice, rejoice at her departure.

Since 1978, Joan Fraser has been the public face and voice
of the Gazette. Fraser provided a continuity through all
the turmoil, largely filling the vacuum of Anglo political
leadership. She was not just a journalist, but a broker of
deals, consulted by Bourassa through his twists and turns.
William Johnson said, in the Ottawa Sun of August 30, “I
heard her say words about English-speaking Quebecers that
remained engraved: "We have no rights." Fraser accepted the
Charter of the French Language, though its objective was to
uproot English as an official language of Quebec. English
remains an official language, as the Supreme Court ruled in
the Blaikie case. Fraser accepted Meech Lake even though
the "distinct society" clause echoed Bill 101 and was meant
to give it constitutional enthronement. She never became
disenchanted with Bourassa, even while he suspended freedoms
in order to ban English from signs, or passed a bill to have
Quebec hold a referendum on secession and secede a year
later if the Yes won. She refused to support the successful
McIntyre challenge to the United Nations, that Bill 101
denied freedom of expression.

Joan Fraser leaves behind her a legacy of a community on the
brink of annihilation as a integral and viable part of
Quebec. She also leaves behind at the Gazette others who
are committed to carrying on her policies of compliance and
appeasement with Quebec nationalists. We hope that Joan
Fraser is only the first to go.

I will not reproduce the article from Maurice J. King, because I
find it offensive to Joan Fraser and to everyone who believes in
moderation.

As editorialist for The Gazette, she always promoted a dialogue
between the two linguistic communities of Quebec, a dialogue based
on mutual respect and the protection of both cultures.

Reading such blatant exagerations from a political party leaves me
no doubt about your bleak future (as a party).

Come on, real people want to live together in peace, and they are
fed up with all the politicians who try to make a career on other
people's feelings.

I couldn't agree more. With that reprint of a disgusting article maligning
an excellent editor, Mr. Henderson has further dug his Equality Party into
the ground. Next, he will probably start reposting editorials from another
local rag, The Suburban.

Small wonder that the Equality Party is a joke.
