Dear maintainer of the python(x,y) wiki,Although it would seem quite basic to experienced pythong(x,y) users that one should go into the link to the Mirrors for downloading the major releases (such as Python(x,y)-2.7.3.0.exe) for installation, for beginners it was not obvious at all. It is intuitive for newbies to assume that the link provided on the top of the download area (e.g., Python(x,y)-2.7.3.1.exe) would be the one for installation from fresh, and after the error message says that it depends on the major release, it takes some efforts to figure out where to find it.Perhaps there is a reason to not put a direct link to the major release on the download area, but I really think that information would be quite helpful and convenient, at least for beginners.Cheers,Erik
Hi Gabi,I've also been experiencing a similar problem. When recommending Python(x,y) to others, I have yet to have a single person successfully install it, because they all immediately try installing the "Current Release", and then fail to find the installation for the "required version" for the "current release". Might I suggest the following modification to the "Current release" section on the Downloads page?As of right now it looks like this:Current release
Python(x,y) current version is 2.7.3.1 (License):
Link(s) Location Python(x,y)-2.7.3.1.exe Mirror - provided by NTUA Python(x,y)-2.7.3.1.exe Mirror - provided by ConnectMV Python(x,y)-2.7.3.1.exe Mirror - provided by University of Kent What about the following instead?:Current release
Python(x,y) current version is 2.7.3.1 (License). To update a pre-existing installation of Python(x,y), use the following links:
Link(s) Location Python(x,y)-2.7.3.1.exe Mirror - provided by NTUA Python(x,y)-2.7.3.1.exe Mirror - provided by ConnectMV Python(x,y)-2.7.3.1.exe Mirror - provided by University of Kent For a new installation of Python(x,y), first install version 2.7.3.0, and then update to 2.7.3.1:
Link(s) Location Python(x,y)-2.7.3.0.exe Mirror - provided by NTUA Python(x,y)-2.7.3.0.exe Mirror - provided by ConnectMV Python(x,y)-2.7.3.0.exe Mirror - provided by University of Kent If this is too elaborate a change, at least mentioning that the base installation (2.7.3.0) for the current version (2.7.3.1) can be found in the Mirror links would be very helpful to beginners!-Kyle
