noob: Pythonxy vs Spyder and startup questions/confusion

So I've installed pythonxy and there's a shortcut to pythonxy that
brings up a "Python(x,y) Home" window that I really don't understand
what it's for.(?) It looks like some sort of option gui. I'm not
sure where the doc on this window is.

To actually "do" python, I end up opening up Spyder directly (from its
installed shortcut in my Windows Start/programs list). I don't know
if that's the right thing to do (?)
It then does a bunch of importing. I think it uses the ...\\xy
\startups\default.py script to do the importing but I'm not sure(?)
and I don't know how I would find out(?)

BTW, what's the best way, in spyder, to find out what modules have
been imported?

I work in a similar way -- just open up Spyder rather than the x,y launcher. It works fine. As for the default modules, I think they are listed in the interpreter, no?
