Hey All,

I've talked to a few of you about this, but I wanted to send it out to
the list for some feedback. I'm thinking we ought to set up a second
standing monthly meeting. A few reasons for this.

1) I think our hackathons meetings have been a lot of fun and I think
it'd be good to have something like that once a month. It's been a
great opportunity to mentor people new to python and we've had a
really good response from them. I hope people who haven't been
involved in the mentoring are getting something out of them as well.
For anybody who hasn't attended one they are inspired by Boston
Pythons Project Night (http://meetup.bostonpython.com/events/
36664082/)

2) We could schedule these on a weeknight. I know some people have
scheduling conflicts with Saturday mornings and that might be keeping
them from attending.

My proposal would be that we hold this additional meeting on the last
Tuesday of every month at 6:30pm.

Also, we've had 6 meetings now and I'd love to get some feedback from
people on what they liked or didn't. Venues that worked out better
than others. Do we need to adjust the meeting time from morning to
afternoon? Or really any other ideas or feedback you have would be
great.

I really like this idea, though I wouldn't be able to do Tuesday evening for a while, so I'll see what day of the week others like.

As for our previous meetings and the typical time, I could use that moved to the afternoon as well. I liked the morning time, but my kids are starting to do stuff now, so, y'know, scheduling and all. :)

The meeting topics have all been great so far, though we're probably due for another roundup of topics.

The venues have been good as well, though I hope we try the mudpie place Julia suggested at some point.

I don't know how much overlap there is between the Python and .NET communities in KC, but the 4th Tuesday of the month is when the .NET group meets.

I just tossed every 4th Tuesday out there as a conversation starter.  I do like it on the 4th week though so it's spaced out nicely from our 2nd Saturday meetings.  Maybe every 4th Thursday?

I definitely don't want it to overlap with other meetups in the city if possible. The reason being is that I'd love to get more people new to the language at those meetups.  I think the ruby meetup is every 2nd Tuesday.

Juan and I discussed hosting at mudpie this month, but the problem there is that they don't have any a/v equipment for presentations so we'd have to bring our own.

Maybe it's a venue better suited for a Project Night?

I do have access to a screen and projector that I could bring to
wherever. Just let me know when, and I will make arrangements to bring
it.

Yeah,  I definitely imagined it as a cozy hacknight venue.

Every 4th Thursday would have a once a year conflict with
Thanksgiving.

That said, I'd love a Tuesday or Thursday meetup, regardless of the
week. Weekends are nigh-impossible for me to make and I'd love to be
more involved.

Yeah, exceptions like that are easy to reschedule though.  Having it has a standing meeting on a certain day in the month makes it really easy to schedule every other date.  And for people to make arrangements to attend if needed.

It's so cool to see the mailing list light up light this! (I know, I'm an oldtimer)

Tuesdays and Thursdays work great for me, Wednesdays would be a problem for me, but I wouldn't be opposed if it works for everybody else. I like the balance of having it the 4th week and as Andrew said, we can handle special situation like Thanksgiving, etc. as they come.

Is awful nice of Lee to offer his A/V equipment, but seeing how this month's meeting is upon us, I think it'd be better to host at a place that has A/V already and then reserve Mudpie (http://www.mudpiebakery.com/) for the first of our new monthly Hackathons. What do you guys think?

I'd have a scheduling conflict on Wednesdays as well.

I'm definitely a +1 for hosting our next hackathon at Mudpie.  And that is awesome of Lee to offer his equipment.  I'm sure we'll have some need for it at future meetings.
