Hi folks,

We're starting a regular open-source night in Tog (Dublin). The idea
is to bring together experienced open-source contributors and aspiring
contributors and make magic happen.

A bit more info here:
https://www.tog.ie/2013/01/one-small-step-open-source-night/ . It
starts on Wednesday next week (Feb 20th), from 6:30pm onwards.

I know many of you have an interest in open-source... whether you have
some experience and like helping out complete newcomers, or are
interested in making your first contribution, come along!

If you have some experience contributing, you can let me know your
project and I'll add it to the list on the blog post. If you're
starting out, don't be disappointed if there doesn't seem to be anyone
from the project you're interested in and come along anyway, there are
similarities across open-source projects so people will be able to
give a hand and advice.

I hope to see you there! Let me know if you have any question.

Julie

Hello Darren,

I don't know if you meant to do so, just for the record you posted
your phone number on the Python Ireland (public) list.

At the moment I think it would be more interesting to have the longer
presentations be on somewhat established projects (as in: the project
has a licence, the code is available, there is ideally a bug tracker
and it already accepted an external contributions).

You should still feel free to come along though, there'll be
super-fast lightning talks (~2-3mins) for people to tell about what
they will be working on for the evening and hopefully find other
contributors. Several people expressed an interest in "pair
programming" on personal open-source projects e.g. hosted on github,
with the author at hand. That sounds like it would fit what you're
looking for perfectly!

The program for tomorrow is going to be something like that:
- 2 x 10-15mins talks
* on open-source in general (tomorrow, confirmed: licences)
* and on an open-source project specifically (I'm still waiting to
hear back from a couple of people, though anyone interested in
presenting tomorrow or next time get in touch please :))
- ? x 2-5mins lightning talks on the project the speaker plans on
working on for the evening, so other interested people can join in

Hope to see you and other Python folks there :)

Julie

Hi julie
Thanks for the reply my mistake on posting my mobile number opps I will be more careful next time.
I would love to do a quick lightning talk if you can fit me in somewhere that would be really great.
Am I right in thinking people will be meeting up about 7 or so ?

That would be great, thanks for volunteering! Doors open at 6:30, the
talks should begin at 7pm and so the lightning talks should start
around 7:30pm. (In an ideal world, anyway.)

Cheers,

Julie

For the record, I will be going through the Django contribution
process, which is totally Python related. Maybe I'll see a few more of
y'all tomorrow :-)

Regards,

Julie
