I been seeing a problem using maya 2012 on windows 7 were the hotkeys like f, w,e,r 4 and 5 stop working in the 3d view.
Sometimes you can middle click in the 3dview and they will work again but other times not.
I suspect that it is a window focus issue but have not been able to track it down.

Have others seen this or know how to solve this problem?

thanks :)

Do you use latest service pack?

We had a similar issue where the popup menu from the timeline area was not releasing the keyboard grabber. We had found a workaround by bringing up that popup again and right clicking away from it to properly release. Then autodesk informed us that it was resolved in a service pack. Although, I know there are different strains of service packs depending on your level of support.

Happens here too with Maya 2012 with the latest public hotfix/service
pack

It's very rare and I can't reproduce it manually, but it requires me
to find a way to force the viewport to regain focus.
Often that's a new session of Maya.

I am using the 2012 x64 subscription Advantage, service pack 1 ( I hope that is the lastest).
I think this is happening when I have multi views. I noticed that even the command "FrameSelected" does not update the active window.
I also tested using "getPanel -wf" to see if some other window had focus, but it seems like there must be part of the gui that is grabbing events.

I will have to try Justin's idea with the timeline.
