Hello. Django sprint. Let's do it.
I'd like to have a look at conversation you had with Honza, so if someone has it, please forward it to tomek at hauru dot eu

I've just sent message to DSF. The message was as follows:

Hello!

I'm writing on behalf of Kraków Python User Group -- PyKonik
(http://blog.pykonik.org/). On recent meet-up we have decided to
organize Django sprint in our city.

Dates are not yet known, but we're aiming for the sprint to happen in
February 2012. Some local companies promised to help with organizing
spacious room with decent Internet connection and some food.

We have contacted Honza Kral with positive response: he's willing to
come and help.

Our community is small (around two dozens) and only two people were ever
participants in open source sprint. We're seeking help in form of
guidance on the best form of the event and also in contacting other core
developers. Also official blessing would be nice, too.

Best regards

Hello. We've got a response from Russel Keith-Magee. He says:
 * there's some funding for sprints in DSF
 * when we work out dates and venue he will post it to django blog
 * we should ask around at django-dev mailing list for people wanting to sprint
 * we've got official DSF blessing
 * gives some event advice:

As for the event itself -- because of the timing, the best thing to
work on will be fixing bugs to help the release get out the door [1].
This list is fairly short at the moment, but I'm sure it will get
longer as we get closer to cutting a release. Get someone at the
sprint to allocate those bugs out to people/teams in the room, and
keep going until there are no bugs left!

We've got some more general advice for sprint participants on our Wiki
[2]. Reading Django's contribution guides are also a possible source
of inspiration [3] [4]. If you can set a goal like "Everyone who
attends gets a ticket to Ready For Checkin", it gives you something to
work towards, and if everyone pairs up, it's a completely achievable
goal.

If someone wants unabridged mail, please ping me.

And for something completely different:

Tomek Paczkowski

Two most important step right now is to fix the dates.
4-5 Feb or 11-12 Feb are the best.
I've done quick research on http://lanyrd.com/2012/feb/ checking for
any major conferences, but nothing got my attention.
If someone could take a look at it it would be great.

I'm still waiting for Jannis Leidel to respond to my email.
Maybe he'll have some preferences.

Jannis did not respond. I probably got bad email or something.
We should decide on dates ourselves and confirm venue.

I suppose 4-5th February is OK. What do you think?

Any reason we should prefer this date over the other (or vice versa)?

Either one is fine with me.

Tomek, first of all thanks for handling this situation. I really would
like to see Django sprint in Kraków.

I my opinion you should handle this situation like a boss :) Just set
up a date. There is not much space to be democratic in this case. If
nothing really big will come up (and probability is low) we will stick
to your proposition.

For me both dates are fine, but we should check our place of sprint (probably KPT) availability. Michal (Chomik), maybe you can do that?

Yup, venue is important. Who's got contacts to KPT? We need to confirm availability, but also how many people can maximally fit in, if food is permitted inside, what is the Internet like.

I may ask KPT those questions. But if you wold like to speak to them personally I may pass contacts I have.

From what I have seen food is allowed. There should be enough place for 30 to 40 people. Do we need more place?

If they know you, then you should handle it. Go ahead. We're aiming 4-5th February or the following weekend.
One more question to ask: is it possible to keep the place open whole night? If not what are the opening hours?

Hidden Data offered their office for sprint. It's just by the main square, so localization could hardly be better. They have 25 work places, and could probably organize more.

The localization is reeeeealy good, close to many hostels, many restaurants, easy to find. Sounds very tempting.

That's great news (especially KTP has just officially answered that they will make official statement in January). Unofficially, I spoke with them on the phone, they want us.

I personally think that Hidden Data invitation will be hard to beat ;-)

 - Hidden Data confirmed 4-5 Feb, we have venue! Huge thanks to this guys!
 - Jannis Leidel confirmed 4-5 Feb, we have another core dev!

So the X-mas slowed organization a bit, but:

1. I've put together a simple website for the sprint: http://django-sprint-krk.ep.io/
Please, go there, read it and tell me what can be improved.

2. I've seen Hidden Data office and it looks spacious.
If you know a place that would lend us some additional chairs/desks that would help a lot.

Things to think about:
a) Food. The way I see it, we'll organize some light snacks (sandwiches and some sweets) and beverages (coffee, tea and energy drinks).
Lunching inside would be troublesome, so instead we'll do an organized lunch in place nearby.

b) Internet. Does any of you have experience with setting up robust WiFi network for 40+ devices?
I'm afraid simple router won't do.

c) We will need some more power strips.

You should submit a request to spr...@python.org to receive
sponsorship for your sprints from the Python Software Foundation! In
2011 we funded 11 sprints, all of which requested funding for their
group's meals.

I'm the leader of the PSF Sprints committee so I can say for sure that
we'd love to help out a sprint by your group. We operate based on
sponsorship, though, so we have you buy the actual stuff then we send
you money after the fact.

The domain? :D we can sponsor a more pronounceable domain and some
hosting, if needed.

Nokando, sorry :/ At least, not for 40+ people.

Yeah, the first thing to die is always wifi. Used to play with it years
ago but in a different scenario (town-wide wireless backbone). I might
be able to help a bit but probably not much.

We can create any pykonik.org subdomain and redirect it wherever you want.

If we're changing domain, than better quickly. I'd like to get it out to the public ASAP.
I'm leaning towards sprint.pykonik.org.
Can someone CNAME this domain to django-sprint-krk.ep.io ?

Grzegorz,

About 40+... I's my wishful thinking. It'll be probably less, more like 20-30. I will know more once people register.
There is registration counter on http://sprint.pykonik.org/registration/

As for chairs and desks. I think we need ~10. Your 3 take it down to 7 more.

I think that it will be good idea to inform django-dev (Google groups) that such event will take place in Kraków. Maybe others Django Core devs could be interested in taking part in this Sprint. Normally this is the first place to read about new sprint events.

Updating this page https://code.djangoproject.com/wiki/Sprints, could be good idea as well.

Also, Szymon commented on our FB profile that the sprint website is
rather scarce with details:
