I am not saying how this thing was performed was the correct way of doing
it.  Maybe discussion on list or fork would've been better I don't know...

Either way, Luke would not allow the changes period, and a fork can split
communities anyway.

Anyway, i have nothing against Luke and would not want him to leave the
project.  It is just unfortunate things like GitHub(or whatever) "www" etc
are not up for discussion under his leadership.

So now the project is hostage to the whims of a small subset of individuals
who performed this action because _their_ desires weren't being met,
without discussing it at all with the larger community.

Yeah, they definitely have the high ground here.
