finding base word of any word

I am trying extract base word from a word ( query on wolves should return wolf). Is there any mechanism implemented in enchant so that I can extract the base word?

No, sorry, no such API is exposed. The spell-checking backends likely
implement some of this logic, but it's hidden from the enchant API.

The nltk package has some classes that can do stemming.
