In metadata for some of my PyDap datasets, I have OpenDap urls for my
data that are intended to be used for OpenDap clients such as IDV.
Unfortunately, they dont't work for browsers; for example:
http://edac-dap.northerngulfinstitute.org/pydap/MODPM2008001192000.L3_NOAA_GMX.hdf
will not work in a browser unless you append a valid response type
like this:
http://edac-dap.northerngulfinstitute.org/pydap/MODPM2008001192000.L3_NOAA_GMX.hdf.dds

Is there a way that I can configure PyDap to display some sort of
information page instead of just a 'not found' error? The version of
PyDap I want to do this with is 2.2.6.3.

Thredds will print out an error/help page in this situation. For
example this URL:
http://edac-dap.northerngulfinstitute.org/thredds/dodsC/ncom/region7/ncom_glb_reg7_2009100800.nc
will produce such a page.

I want to do this because our metadata management software scans for
broken links and I want these links to be considered valid even though
they aren't for use by browsers.
