The Freedom Alliance registers a resounding victory at the Wayamba Provincial polls. The Elections Commissioner has released the final result of the Wayamba Provincial Council after the re-polling at the Nayakkarchenai polling booth within the Puttalam Polling Division.
Accordingly, the Freedom Alliance had polled 26,757 votes in the Puttalam electorate. It is 53.70 percent. The UNP polled a total of 22,664 votes. The percentage was 45.24. The JVP had received only 337 votes in the Puttalam electorate and its percentage was only 67.
According to the overall result, the Alliance had received 67.48 percent of votes in the Puttalam District while the UNP had received only 30.24 percent. The total number of seats secured by the Alliance in the District is 11. The UNP won only five seats. The Freedom Alliance has 37 seats in the Wayamba Provincial Council while the UNP has won only 14 seats. The JVP had managed to bag only one seat.
