Press Release: FAPUASA Sindh Observes Black Day to Press for the Acceptance of Demands

HYDERABAD, June 6: Sindh Chapter of the Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Associations (FAPUASA) observed Black Day as per its line of action announced on May 28 at Karachi Press Club. All the faculty members in each Public Sector University wore Black Arm Band and office bearers of Teachers Associations marched towards Vice-Chancellor’s Office to present Chart of Demands. The demands included reinstatement of dismissed teacher Prof Anwar Mangrio and appointment of VC as per HEC criteria at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto University (SBBU) Nawabshhah; appointment of new VC as per HEC criteria at the University of Sindh; allotment of unutilized University/State Land for Housing Schemes; Payment of in-service encashment of leave; NOC by VC; relaxation in the hardship cases as per example of other provinces; removal of retired personal from administrative posts; strict regulation of conduct and discipline of students and improvement in the law and order situation at all the Universities of Sindh; and revision of Universities Acts and Statutes to restructure and re-organize the Universities in order to ensure more autonomy, efficiency, transparency and accountability based on the principle of shared governance and responsibility. The office bearers demanded the Vice-Chancellors to implement those demands which they could and communicate the rest to the Honorable Chancellor with personnel efforts to coordinate with Chancellor’s secretariat to arrange a meeting of the representatives of FAPUASA Sindh and the Honorable Chancellor for the resolution of the issues. The teaching fraternity hopped for timely positive response from the Chancellor’s Secretariat and vowed to continue protesting through observation of Black Days and marching to VC office every day if their demands are not implemented in letter and sprit. As a next phase of the protest the Teachers would start observing token hunger strike at Governor’s House which finally culminate in a mega public demonstration.
