Hi,

I've been trying to get PureDarwin to work, but the xmas download when
run under VMware player gives an operating system not found error, the
nano download under VMware player gets as far as the boot screen with
the little green lizard on the branch then nothing else happens, and
the nano ISO gets to booting a minimal shell but there doesn't seem to
be a way to make further progress from there. What else should I be
doing?

(My objective is to get to a point where I can copy up, compile and
test some C code under GCC or whatever the recommended compiler is on
this platform.)

Hi,
what you have in mind definitely works. I am running MacPorts on PureDarwin.
Please see http://www.puredarwin.org/developers/vmware for more information.
Best,
Simon

I'm in the same position as Russell. When I try to run either of the Vmware images (either Xmas or Darwin 9 Nano), neither runs.

I'm attempting to boot them on Vmware player on Windows.

Xmas yields "Operating System Not Found".

Nano 9 shows a green chameleon and a picture of a CD, but doesn't proceed past. If I start typing I see:
boot:

And I can enter a value for "boot", but nothing I've typed in seems to work.

I've looked at the Vmware link you sent, but haven't seen anything that makes it clear to me of what I should do.

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!
