Sounds like a bug in pureadmin.. What happens if you create the group
and user + create home ftp folder like the ubuntu guide stated (I read
it through and the information there is correct.
If you then start pureadmin, it should find the correct system
accounts and not ask you to create them.

Just uninstalled both pureftpd & pureadmin via the Synaptic Package
Manager (with the "remove configuration files" (is this the same as --
purge?) option chosen), deleted ftpgroup from Users & Groups,
reinstalled pureftpd from the autopackage file on [link]

Yeah, 0.3 is known to be buggy.
Hmm, this line is weird. What do you see when you run (from the terminal):
sudo pure-pw list

This second error was due to that group name already existing most
likely, deleted both ftpuser & ftpgroup and reran Pureadmin v0.4 as
root, the prompts for creating a user and group worked normally.
However, the original problem is still occurring with being unable to
edit any user details after adding a user, same error in debug log:

Just updated to v0.4 via the Package file at

now completely unable to open the Manage Users screen. On choosing

Same issue being experienced here, using Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04) and
PureAdmin v0.3 as installed by the Package Manager.

Due to this error I logged in as root and ran through all the steps on
[link], same issue still ongoing.
I'm a novice so it's entirely possible I'm doing something dumb.

Hi.
I'm a newbie trying to install PureFTPd on a osx 10.5 machine but i
keep running in to problems.. would anyone here be able to guide me a

Yes. You can do it the traditional ip/mask way:
192.168.0.1/24 (only people coming from 192.168.0.1 through 192.168.0.255)
or by using hostnames comma.
foo.com (only people coming from foo.org)
It's also possible to combine several ranges and/or hostnames using comma:

ip restrictions > multiple ip (ip ranges)

This seems to be a problem with PureFTPd (the server) and not
PureAdmin (the GUI). These are two separate projects, but I'll try to
help you anyway.

Im newbie to the linux stuff...but i know some what of what im
doing...
after all the installation of the prog, im trying to start the service
after all the configs are done...
but...i get the following message;
/etc/init.d/pure-ftpd start returned 7 (program is not running)
starting pure-ftpd
and thats it...im not 100% sure what that actually means and need

It's probably because the permissions on the FTP users folder is incorrect.
In pureadmin, you map each user to a system user (called "ftpuser" by
default) and a system group (called "ftpgroup" by default).
The directory where your ftp files are ("/home/ftpuser" by default)

Ehlo,
I've pureftpd on SuSE SLES 10 and your pureadmin.
My problem is when i've configured one user ...
I'm going to connect with the ftp agent and can't create or modify
folders or files.
Plz, can u explain-me why ?
Perhaps, it's due to a pureftpd-donf bad config.
PS: excuse-me if my language isn't correct, so french !
