Hi, I notice that Pure now supports non-linear patterns. Nevertheless from this earlier discussion https://groups.google.com/d/topic/pure-lang/2L15ahH7SbA/discussion, it seems there are quite some arguments against it. I wonder why it is eventually introduced into the language regardless of these objections. Thanks.

Well, that thread is pretty old and we had some heated discussions about
this and related issues at the time. But in the end I had to agree that
this feature, besides being convenient, was just too important for
symbolic rules to be left out. There was also a technical issue which
had to do with the treatment of multi-argument lambdas, but that got
resolved at the same time, so I decided to just give it a go and include
