  <title type="text">Install gem packages behind a proxy</title>

  Hi all. My particular environment doesn&#39;t allow most of the machines to &lt;br&gt; make direct external connections, so I send a lot of things through &lt;br&gt; proxies. And now, I&#39;m trying to figure out how to use puppet to install &lt;br&gt; gems, via proxy. &lt;br&gt; The gem command itself has a command line option, or honors the &lt;br&gt; http_proxy environmental variable. But I don&#39;t see how to use either of

  right &lt;br&gt; yes, this variable should represent the desired state of ipaddress. &lt;br&gt; I don&#39;t follow what you mean here. The function wouldn&#39;t use the exported &lt;br&gt; resource, it would just use $ip. (unless there is something I am not &lt;br&gt; understanding)

  My only concern about this is that functions evaluate on the server, right? &lt;br&gt; The only place I change ip&#39;s is in a variable ($ip) in nodes.pp for each &lt;br&gt; node. I do export a host{} entry for each box to storeconfig but I don&#39;t &lt;br&gt; know if I can rely on that being updated in time for the function to look.
