Hello everyone!
We've been a little out of touch lately, but there's been a lot going on! Here are some of the projects that we've been involved in:
- We've been working with the United Workers Association in Baltimore to build a Haunted Halloween parade for their Fair Development Conference. Click here to see some of the great visuals in process!
- A couple of us went to Honduras to join a delegation of artists, musicians and human rights activists in solidarity with the Honduran resistance movement. The delegation participated in El Dia del Arte y Cultura en Resistencia (Day of Art and Culture in Resistance) that was organized in protest of the repression Hondurans have been struggling against since the 2009 military coup d'etat ousted their democratically elected president. We'll update our facebook page with more info about that trip soon.
- We've been spending lots of time with Occupy K Street in McPherson Square, building a tent to house arts materials, participating in the arts committee, and working with the action committee, among other stuff. (If you're in need of fun this weekend, there's a fabulous pumpkin carving event on Saturday! Great excuse to check out the occupation if you haven't already!)
And here's what's coming up!:
- We're working on our next cabaret which we hope will happen at Occupy K Street sometime in the next month, so watch for announcements about that.
- We also are inaugurating our first open Puppet Underground Meeting and (Vegetarian) Potluck Dinner on Thursday, November 3rd at 6:30pm! We have invited members of the DC 51 artist collective to share about their awesome political art work, and we will be talking about working with Occupy K Street, our upcoming cabaret, and more. If you are interested in attending, please RSVP to PuppetUnd...@gmail.com and we will let you know the location once we have it.
And as we are attempting to re-organize our workshop space and make it a little more functional than it currently is, we have some needs! If any of you have the following items and would be willing to donate them to your good friend Puppet Underground, we would be exceedingly grateful!:
- Big shelving units or wall mounted shelves
- House Paint (preferably primary or bright colors)
- Tools (drills, saws, staple guns, boxcutters, etc.)
- Shop/clip lights
- Solid-colored bed sheets or large fabric
- Aaand... Marching bass drum with top hat! (Pretty pleeeease???)
That's all, folks. Thanks for reading. Hopefully next time we write we'll actually have a show for you!
All the very best,
Puppet Underground
