Role: Lead Engineer
As the Lead Engineer at Scrappy Ventures, you will be responsible for the design and development of all in-house as well as client-facing projects. You need to have a solid hands-on programming experience in the technologies stated below. In addition to performing code reviews for junior engineers on critical projects, you will be responsible for hands-on development of at least one project. As the business scales, you will help grow the team by recruiting candidates and managing junior and entry-level web developers and engineers. Individuals that exhibit strong performance in the role of a Lead Engineer will have the opportunity to grow into the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) role at Scrappy.
Skills required:
- It is essential that you have expert-level proficiency in W3C compliant HTML & CSS, object oriented PHP, MySQL and cross-browser compatible Javascript/AJAX
- Experience with modular object oriented programming and understanding of MVC design patterns and frameworks such as CodeIgniter
- Experience with jQuery
- Basic knowledge of Actionscript is a strong plus
- Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices and front-end techniques to optimize load time of webpages is highly desirable
- Knowledge of version control tools such as SVN or preferably Git
- Knowledge of APIs such as Google Maps API, GData API, social networking APIs (Twitter, Facebook) highly desirable
- Knowledge of facebook connect and oAuth highly desirable
- Ability to perform basic Linux-based system administration tasks such as installing new tools in Linux, configuring automated back-ups, migrating websites from one Linux server to another Linux server
- Ability to perform basic Apache administration such as configuring virtual hosts, rewriting URLs, configuring custom 404 pages, .htaccess based configuration
- Knowledge of log maintenance and MySQL database administration (concept of storage engines, master-slave database, hand-code queries, setup backups, etc)
- Experience of full software development lifecycle, right from gathering customer requirements, to converting them into functional specifications and delivering final product
- Reliability and accountability is of utmost importance
- Ability to self-learn by referring documentation on new tools and technologies
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
- Strong attention to detail
- Willingness and ability to document code, provide daily as well as weekly updates
- This is a full-time role. Not interested in part-time candidates.
- Preferably: MCA, BCA or BE graduate - but experience and skill-set will trump any formal education or degrees
Role: Junior or Senior Engineer
As the Junior or Senior Engineer at Scrappy Ventures, you will either report to the founder or the lead engineer. You will be responsible for the development of in-house or client-facing projects. You will have a subset of the skill-sets listed under the job description for Lead Engineer. As the business scales you will get an opportunity to mentor other junior engineers. We are not considering freshers at this time. Only candidates with a minimum of 1 year experience in the technologies listed above will be considered.
