I've got two suggestions. One, start the course and listen to the kids as to what they are interested in learning about. Secondly, perhaps introduce an arduino kit and get them into the builds that come in the manual so they can pick up on their own at home. Also, the bedroom security concept is fun but what about the parents? Cookie jar screamer?
