Surely that business of all industry have to compete with each other. Each type of business or organisation must try as best as they can to gain competitive advantage and it seems that today, many of enterprises focus on customer service excellence rather than focus on other marketing toll like quality of products or price, which is very easy to define the marketing strategy. According to this reason, business will have to constantly change their marketing strategy in order to gain competitive advantage, which is about to make buyers or customers to satisfy with the service or products. For example a company who provide education consultancy service may use their branches as a counseling centre and/or having call centre as a point of contact for customers who may need assistance of the service in case students and parents do not want to come to counseling centre but just want to have consultation by phone.

Here is the role of SOA (Service-Oriented Architechture) become obvious. According to the information described above, there is still the problem that even though the businesss core products or services can be performed by the corporate branches, but the resource and IT management system still have to be rely on central hub in order to provide the service to customers. Therefore, the usage of central computer have to be increased naturally in order to provide wider support to clients and at this point, SOA has to be involve because now we can see that using computer in business organisation is not limited with only using software applications.

So what the SOA means and how it effect to the business enterprise.

The major component of SOA consists of 1) Enterprise Service Bus which is a kind of network to perform links between software applications in the organisation. 2) Design-Time Governance; it is a database which contain information of all service throughout organisation and to distribute the service function to sub level of service to other organizations network. 3) Run-Time management, which is the function that monitor the workflow of all application within the entire network and to ensure that all function working properly.

In fact, SOA is not the new thing or have just emerged recently. The term SOA sometimes defined as one type of software application that helps on customer service function. But in fact it is wrong perception. SOA is actually a Concept of using smaller software package that helps small functions that breakdown for the central computer system, so it is not a software package. The organisation has to decide on which type of service that they are going to offer to clients. However, someone may define that SOA as a web service application but it is not. Web service application is just the tool that use within SOA concept. Therefore, just to re-emphasize about the meaning of SOA that it is the conceptual idea (intangible) it is not a kind of goods or products that you can buy in the software market, in stead, the organisation have to make their own SOA strategy to provide effective service to its clients.
