Portable generators can serve multiple purposes ranging from recreational use to powering essential appliances during a power outage. If you plan to use a portable generator for your backup power needs during a blackout, consider these issues to ensure that your generator delivers the power you�re relying on.
* Do a quick calculation to determine the appliances that will be powered by the generator and how much energy they will require to both start and run. Your portable generator probably won�t be able to power everything in your home so knowing what will be hooked up in advance can speed the process of powering up.
* Rolling the generator into position to provide power to the house may require some work, possibly in nasty weather. If you�re not sure that you�ll be able to move the generator to the location near enough to the house to connect it to appliances, etc., building a shelter in that location will have the generator ready to go when you need it. Do not set up the shelter near doors, window or vents where emissions from the generator can get into the home.
