The correct answer is it depends. Several factors need to be taken into consideration when choosing that perfect new hot tub. The best place to start is by looking at the location that you intend to place the tub if your available space is only 6 feet by 6 feet then looking at the larger 8 person 8 foot square tubs is not a viable option. If you have plenty of room for a hot tub then you need to consider how many people you would like to accommodate at one time, do you have a large family or do you entertain a lot? Today smaller two person or personal hot tubs are gaining in popularity for use in hydrotherapy. The swim spa market is also growing at a fast pace as people are looking to fill a dual role with one purchase.
When you decide on how many people you would like to be able to have in your hot tub at one time it is a good idea to go check them out if you want to be able to hold all six members of your family at once take them all to the hot tub store. Some stores actually have private test rooms that allow you to test drive a new hot tub before you by if this is not an option you can always set in a dry tub. Some key points to consider when test driving a new hot tub is the water level you will want the level to be just over your shoulders you don�t want a tub that has seats that are too deep. Just like not all cars that claim to seat 5 they do not all seat 5 comfortable the same can be said for hot tubs, there is a big difference between 5 people whose average weight is 100 pounds and 5 people whose average weight is 175 pounds. The biggest area of concern is usually in the foot well area if you have an eight person hot tub then you will have 16 feet and legs all trying to put their feet in the same place. This is why round hot tubs are less popular when it comes to holding more people. The shape that allows the most usable room is a square tub without a lounger seat in it.
Operating cost of course will be higher with a larger hot tub but size is not the biggest factor for instance if a hot tub that holds 100 gallons cost 100 dollars to operate a 150 gallon tub may cost 125 dollars to operate for the same time period other factors such as use, insulation and efficiency of the pumps will have a larger impact on the overall operating costs.
