In my opinion, there's only one way to experience Grand Canyon National Park and that's by helicopter. Trips depart from Las Vegas and South Rim and to make sure you get the best flight, I've compiled these 5 tips.
Tip #1
My first tip is for Las Vegas travelers and it regards taking a landing tour. There are two kinds of flights, air and landing, and from Vegas I find the landing options superior. This is especially so because landing tours are ONLY available from this location.
As for which landing tour, I'm super partial to the one that goes to the bottom for a Champagne picnic (the descent is simply incredible!). The next one I like a lot is the same tour but extended with a Colorado River boat ride and Skywalk.
My second key tip is to go with the deluxe version of the tour. In Vegas, this means getting a package that uses the superior EcoStar 130 helicopter, which is outfitted with a 180-degree windshield and bucket seats so every spot is the best in the house.
Deluxe Flights
Further, deluxe tours from Vegas also depart from the Las Vegas Strip and include a tour over The Strip. You also get picked up and dropped off via limousine, which is awesome if you're celebrating a special occassion.
The third tip I have for you is: Book in advance. This is really important because there are only a limited number of helicopters and they fill up quickly (some 3 months in advance!). As such, I always tell friends and family to lock in their flight at least two weeks prior to the date they want to fly.
My fourth tip concerns booking online. I say this because it's where you get the cheapest rates. On certain flights, you can save up to 35 percent! The savings really add up if you are a group of two or more people so make sure you take advantage of this opportunity.
Safe, Secure Bookings
I want to add that booking online is safe and secure and easy. I personally book all clients, friends and family on the Web and have never had a negative experience. My opinion extends to mobile bookings, too, which more and more of you are doing.
My final tip is to request window seats. Understand that these seats are never guaranteed because seating on helicopters is determined by the weight of all passengers flying and that weight has to be distributed evenly throughout the aircraft.
That said, you can still request the front. The nice thing is that you will not be charged for this request unless the seats are offered to you at check-in. And even then you have the option to accept or refuse. The cost is an additional $50 per person and it's worth it.
Conclusion
I hope my 5 tips for better helicopter tours to the Grand Canyon were helpful. The fact of the matter is that if you use just one or two of these tips, you are well on your way to getting the right tour at the lowest price. So buckle up and let the adventure begin!
