There is a great chance that you might not have heard of Fellbach in Germany, or if you have, only in passing. This is a great shame as there are many delightful features offered by this charming town, and you could do far worse than to spend a weekend (or even a week) exploring all that Fellbach has to offer you.
That said, you will be interested in knowing that Fellbach is located on a plateau at the northern foothills of Shurs Forest, in the Neckar River Basin. It is also incidentally, located on the outskirts of Stuttgart. This being the case, Fellbach is also within reasonable traveling distance to such illustrious places as Frankfurt, Baden-Baden, and Heidelberg in Germany, and to Strasbourg in France, to name but a few.
Due to its proximity to Stuttgart, Fellbach also offers visitors a number of choice hotels to choose from, the Moevenpick Str Messe which is near the airport, to the Hilton Garden Inn Stuttgart NeckarPark which has 150 rooms.
Now that you know you wont be stranded when you get there, you will be interested in finding out what you can do in Fellbach besides visit Stuttgart of course. If you really want to get a feel for the place, you could do no better than to take a visit over to the Fellbach City Museum. The building itself which the museum is housed in is one that has been standing since 1680, although the museum has only been around since 1977. This half-timbered building also houses the Fellbach archives. The Galerie der Stadt of Fellbach is housed nearby in the town hall complex which was only opened recently in 1997.
The Old Wine building, now an exhibition and lecture hall, is worthwhile seeing just for the roof. The intricate wooden roof has arches covering a dimension over 3000 meters. Built in 1906, you will not easily see many buildings such as this, these days.
If you really want to see some old architecture however, then you would do best to set foot in Fellbachs most significant landmark, the Evangelical Lutheran Church. Constructed in 1519, the church was originally surrounded by a wall and a moat, both of which were destroyed in the 19th Century.
There are also a number of events and festivals held in Fellbach throughout the year. This includes the Christmas Market which is situated near Town Hall, and the Fellbacher Hopf on the 30 of April. Maikferfest is celebrated on the first weekend of May, and in July you will get the Fellbacher Open Air Cinema which is held in the courtyard of City Hall.
And if you didnt already know it, Fellbach is part of the Wrttemberg wine region and is on the Wrttemberg Wine Road, an official route which takes you through the many vineyards of the region. Which means, yes you guessed it, a wine festival as well. The Fellbach Autumn wine festival is held on the second weekend of October, and interestingly enough does not include beer in its lineup.
With such a great amount of things to see and do in Fellbach, the wonder is not that you will be going there the wonder is that you havent already been there!
