Are robotic vacuum cleaners really better than traditional vacuum cleaners?

There are several types of traditional vacuum cleaners, upright versions and canister versions. Most of us have used these at some point in our lives.

People have their preferences as to which type is the best - but may not be aware that you can now buy robotic vacuum cleaners which will completely change your ideas about which type to purchase if you are in the market now.

Vacuum cleaners are hard wearing and last a long time, but will still have been replaced several times through the years. As the years go by, it's not only machines that get older - we do too! Vacuum cleaning, whichever type of traditional cleaner is used, is quite a strenuous procedure. I'm over forty now, and keeping my 3 bedroom apartment clean is becoming a task which takes more and more out of me. My old machine is the canister type and tugging and pulling it around behind me, getting tangled up with the hose and the power cord, bending down to reach some areas, even sometimes having to get down on my hands and knees, is all getting a bit too much for me.

So what is the solution? Well it has been around longer than most people realise, but the robotic vacuum cleaner is the perfect answer to my problem.

The back pains, muscle strain in the legs, shoulders and other aching joints I used to suffer while vacuuming, are now a thing of the past thanks to the iRobot 532.

I understand that traditional vacuum cleaners are good quality machines and work well, and I appreciate that my old machine has served me well in the past, but the past is the past and now I want to look to the future. The future, without doubt in robotic vacuum cleaners. I don't doubt for a moment that in a few years everyone will be using them. As with many things people can be resistant to change and get stuck in their ways, but these robotic vacuum cleaners are not just newer varities of the cleaners we've all known - they really are a revolution and can liberate from the chore of vacuum cleaning forever.

Research into typical purchasers of robotic vacuum cleaners shows that they are generally people with back problems that cannot bend to undertake many household chores, people with disabilities and problems with mobility, and simply just very busy people. That is from current research, but I am sure that this demographic will soon change to include just about anyone who wants to buy a new vacuum cleaner.

The iRobot 532 robotic vacuum cleaner has some impressive features.

One remarkable feature is that the device comes with a pair of "virtual walls". These can be placed in specific positions so that the Roomba will go beyond an invisible line, or "virtual wall", keeping it away from areas that you do not want it to clean, or from stairs or places where it may fall and possibly get damaged.

Another feature is that the Roomba is capable of treating some areas differently to other, working harder if necessary to ensure that a thorough job is done. You can use the "spot clean" feature so that it will confine itself to a smaller area that needs some extra attention. It will automatically adjust to cope with cleaning different surfaces, lat's say moving from a smooth wooden floor to a carpetted area. Where you had to stop and manually change the brush height of the cleaning head, the Roomba just takes this in it's stride and make any adjustments itself.

Due to it's futuristic design the iRobot Roomba 532 will also clean under chairs, sofas etc. No more squatting and bending to reach difficult areas; your Roomba will reach places that were daunting for you with ease.

If you look at the range of Roomba robotic vacuum cleaners, you will find that some models seem very similar to one another, for example the Roomba 530 and the Roomba 532. What is the difference between them? Well the Roomba 532, as other models in the range thathave the "2" added to the model number, is one of the "Pet Series", which have extra features to cope with the extra demands if you have a pet at home which can make life more difficult when it comes to cleaning up.

The extra features include twin interchangeable bins, the "Vacuuming" bin and the high-capacity "Sweeper" bin, which keeps up with the demands of removing the pet hair and dander, that non pet owners do not have to worry about. It also has extra interchangeable brushes and filters for more frequent cleaning and replacement. These extra featueres make the Roomba 532 (or other models in the Pet Series) a must-have if you have one or more pets sharing your home.

Now we come to the feature that is really what robots and robotic vacuum cleaners are all about; apart from atending to the routine maintenance you can simply set it to work and forget about it. You can be somewhere else in the home occupying yourself with other matters, or you can go out - shopping, to visit friends, taking the dog for a walk or any number of other reasons. Then you arrive back home and the vacuuming has been while you've been away! This really is the future in our hands today - what many people might still think of as science fiction is a reality.

The iRobot 532 can save you physical exertion with the aches and pains associated with vacuuming, save you time as it looks after itself working while you are not at home, and save from one of the household chores that you least looked forward to doing.

The future is here, now - make the most of it!
