We previously introduced a popular Japanese brand – Mother garden - in the article, An Introduction to Japanese Toys That Help Child Development Through Imitation. A lot of feedbacks have come from different people in different countries. Generally speaking, these people have a positive feedback about the Japanese brand, and do have an intention to step forward for making a purchase. That said, a few readers from Asia point out that there are a lot of replicated Mother garden products in the market. Not only are these products being sold at an unreasonable bargain price, but also have an extremely similar appearance to authentic Mother garden products.
Yes. We are aware of the counterfeits in the market; and we strongly do not encourage people to purchase, or even use, them. While there are a lot of reasons behind our argument, the most important one is health concern. As with any other parents in the world, we care our children. We do not want our children to be hurt. These counterfeits normally use substandard materials, which could lead to health issues when children have physical touch. Taking the flagship wooden products by Mother garden as an example, counterfeits usually apply substandard paints on wooden products. These substandard paints produce a lot of bad smell, and create harm to children. This is especially true when children play with these replicated wooden products for prolonged period. There have been readers complaining the counterfeits after they make a purchase from unreliable sources. Notably, they have wasted their money on counterfeits, and are regretful when they see the actual replicated products. While some counterfeits may look 95% similar to authentic Mother garden products, others do not. Even if the counterfeits do have 95% similarity, these readers do not have confidence to let their children to use the counterfeits (after they are aware of the health issues).
What’s our advice? These counterfeits normally come from unreliable source in China.
