With teeth whitening essentially a process is achieved and the results achieved can be both complicated and not guaranteed to give people the desired whiteness.

For many years the teeth whitening industry has been developing new solutions to help find ways of making the treatment work better and give huge results to every person but teeth are extremely complex and have differing factors on every individual.

Some of these factors include:

Types of staining the enamel has absorbed
Some liquid type stains tend to penetrate deeper in the enamel compared to food components and therefore these are more difficult to remove particularly on the bottom teeth where the enamel is slightly thinner and this makes staining easier. Red wine and fruit juices are also easily stain the teeth but one of the growing trends being seen by the younger generation having their teeth whitened is fizzy carbonated drinks like cola and energy drinks. Not only do these wear the enamel but they also stain teeth really easily.

Thinner Enamel
Having slightly thinner is commonly a problem as this will occur staining much more easily as the teeth have a lesser barrier to protect them and for these individuals there is a likelihood they suffer more from sensitive teeth on a day to day basis. Another challenge is for individuals with thinner teeth is the whitening does not last as long because the teeth re-stain very easily and so it is important to keep working on a program like using a home kit periodically to maintain the results.

How the enamel reacts to the whitening gel
Everyone has teeth which have porous values but when teeth whitening we require the pores to open quickly and efficiently so the gel can penetrate and removing the staining. This is important for the laser or light based systems. Some people the pores open more slowly and this will reduce the likely results.

Guaranteed whiteness
There is no such thing in teeth whitening as a guaranteed result because of the complexity with the above factors so anyone going in to whitening should not expect magic or miracles. Yes it will work but not everyones teeth can look like Simon Cowell or Tom Cruise. If you have high expectations and never had whitening before then it might be worth trying to keep an open mind and see how it works for you. The internet is littered with before and after pictures but a small change of whiteness is all some people will see.

Summary
Like anything with the teeth keep regular appointments with your dentist and get their advise on what they think will work best for you. Also discuss budgets because it is pointless spending hundreds and hundreds of pounds or dollars on something you are not sure will deliver you great return and value for money.

Lastly do plenty of research and the internet has plenty of articles and information on whitening which will help you understand more about the process and help you with your decision. Whatever you do good luck and hope it goes well for you!
