When people see the amazing results and experience the benefits of teeth whitening it could be easy to get addicted to the whitening and become obsessive about getting pearly white teeth.
In this article we will discuss the potential signs and also see how to maintain white teeth without the need for over regular treatments or usage of whitening products.
When something makes us feel good or look good as in with teeth whitening then it can be tempting to keep going with it to see if we can improve the results further like an addiction but with the teeth they will only go so white and keep trying to over whiten them wont happen.
People get over the top with teeth whitening and try and try to get them pure white but it is the underlying dentin which controls the colour. The enamel will whiten and once the staining is removed will whiten and brighten but the dentin has lots of variables.
Making the plunge and having your teeth whitened is a positive step and this article should not put you off but just be realistic and not go over the top on frequency. If you are opting for the home kit route of which there are plenty of options available to buy on the internet then after the initial period then every six to eight weeks is ideal to balance between keeping the teeth white and too much whitening.
When we get older the staining we build up in the teeth shows off in a yellowish or brown colour and many people over the age of 40 are considering teeth whitening as it really can reduce your age once they are made whiter. This can result in a change that is quite dramatic and for these people they can get paranoid the results will not last and this is not true. For sure the teeth are easier to stain when we get older due to wearing enamel but just once every few week with some bleaching trays will lift off the staining that re-appears during that time window. This is a sensible approach as I think an ongoing strategy to keeping the teeth consistently looking white all year round is a good thing just dont over use the whitening gels not that it could damage the enamel (no research has proven this could be the case) but it is more of a physiological issue spending way too much time trying to whiten the teeth!
So relax the teeth can be made whiter and the smile made brighter but just keep it real and maybe opt for power teeth whitening as this requires a treatment only once per year as the light will heat the peroxide based gels to remove the staining and amazingly in just 60 minutes treatment time. Come back in a year and get a re-blast of the power whitening system and pronto the teeths colour will be restored back to their former glory and no need to mess around with home kit!
