If you are thinking of upgrading to a newer type of awning or if you are just getting awnings for the first time, then you will want to know what the different types that are out there to choose from. Awnings are basically a canopy of some sort of material that will provide a place of shelter for you, your family and friends, from such elements of the sun and rain. And awnings are very good for keeping your outdoor furniture from fading and it also aides in keeping the temperature of your house at a regulated temperature.

In order to choose the type of awning that is right for you, you need to know what those types of awnings are. Lets take a look at the various types so you can make the best choice for you and your home.

You can get awnings that are structured to cover your whole patio or you can the awnings that are made to just cover your windows. They come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Perhaps one of the most common used awnings you will find are the ones that go between a wall and out into the garden, giving your home the appearance of expansion. Once you add some lights to the area, you will have an extended area of your home. Perhaps to use as an outdoor area for entertaining.

There are the ever famous retractable which can include the lateral arm type. This type can provide your patio with shade then retract when you are done using it. Some are even fitted with screens to provide a screened bug free room.

Some awnings may be made of corrugated polycarbonate, aluminum, corrugated fiberglass, or even some other materials may be used instead of fabric. All of the above mentioned are definitely more durable than fabric ones as they will not wear out due to the ever-changing weather. Some people may not realize that when they go with the lighter colored awnings, as they give a more airy feeling, they are actually letting more light in which will not cool down the area that they are trying to. This makes the lighter awnings less economical and not a good choice.

No matter what awning you decide to go with, make sure you do a bit of homework so you can be sure to get the awning that best meets your needs and budget. Shop around for the best possible deals and what will give you the best bang for your buck.
