Wildfire pepper sprays are some of the hottest made, containing an 18% concentration of oleoresin capsicum, the chemical that makes peppers so hot. The concentration of oleoresin capsicum affects its Scoville Heat Unit rating, which is a measurement of just how much the pepper spray will burn. This chemical has a rating of 3 million Scoville heat units (SHU), compared to around 300,000 to 500,000 for the hottest habanero pepper. Most other pepper sprays are rated at around 2 million SHU. Because Wildfire sprays use only the hottest cayenne peppers to derive the chemicals for the spray, this pepper spray is unbelievably hot.
Wildfire pepper spray is one of only a handful of defense spray formulations with a concentration above 10 percent. Although conventional wisdom holds that pepper sprays over ten percent are unable to be propelled out of the can, new technology is allowing hotter and hotter pepper sprays. Because of its high concentration of oleoresin capsicum, Wildfire sprays react nearly instantaneously on the skin and with the mucous membranes, stopping the attack quickly.
