First aid techniques have changes quite a lot since this type of training was first introduced. The maneuvers used have been altered, over time, to various extents and will probably continue to do so in the future. Because of this, any first aid certificate has an expiration date. This date may vary, according to the company that offered the initial training, but a certificate is not usually valid more than 2 or 3 years. If your first aid certificate is nearing its expiration date, read below to find out everything you need to know about renewing it.
There are two main ways in which you can renew your first aid certificate: you can undergo a training course once again or simply take the test. If you feel that too much time has passed since you last attended training and you no longer feel confident in your skills, you should definitely choose the former option. If you think you already know everything you need when it comes to first aid and retaking a training course would be a waste of your time, you can choose the latter option.
Regardless of the method you choose, you will have to contact the institution that offered your initial training, or another one in case the first one failed your expectations, and set up a date for you to retake the course and/or test.
Renewing your certificate can be done both online and offline, depending on your preferences. Online is definitely faster, but if you also want to strengthen your skills in first aid, a live course could benefit you more.
If you choose to simply take the test, you have to be very confident in your knowledge and skills because, in case you fail, you will have to pay a new fee in order to able to take the test once again.
Sometimes, choosing to attend a new training session is the best choice. First aid protocols change from time to time and what you have learned two years ago may be outdated. Because of this, it is recommended to undergo a new training program that can teach you everything that has changed. It may require you to invest some time and effort, but it will definitely be worth it.
If first aid is a skill required by your profession, your employer will probably take care of all the necessary arrangements for you to renew your certificate. If this is the case, you may not have too much say in the method chosen: you may be required to attend an entire course all over again, you may be offered a refresher course, or you may be asked to simply take the test.
These are the most important things anyone needs to know about how to renew their first aid certificate. Renewing your training is an absolute must; there simply is no way of getting around it. Hopefully, the information provided above will make it easier for you to undergo this process.
