Does your office need a commercial-grade paper shredder that can shred more than 30 sheets at a time? And one that operates quietly and also has a thermally protected motor? If so, you'll want to take a look at the Formax FD 8600SC Paper Shredder. This is a strip-cut device that's perfect for large offices. Here's a short review of this product so you can decide if it would be a good fit for your workplace.
This product's strengths:
* The 8600SC has a feed opening that's 16 inches wide. Due to its feed opening, this shredder can destroy documents that have been printed on large paper including green-bar computer paper. It can also handle credit cards and document fasteners.
* This is a very fast machine that can shred up to 30 feet of paper per minute. That's about 31 sheets per pass.
* The waste bin can store up to 26 gallons of shreds, so you won't need to empty it on a constant basis. The machine will stop automatically when bin is full and when cabinet door is ajar.
* The 8600SC is outfitted with casters which is a very good thing considering this product weighs almost 250 pounds.
* This device is thermally protected to reduce the risk of an overheated motor. There's a safety circuit breaker than ensures operation will be extremely safe.
* The 8600SC has both automatic and manual modes. The manual mode allows you to take care of items that the sensor can't detect such as very small pieces of paper. No matter what mode it's in, this shredder will always operate quietly.
* It will be easy to know when your shredder needs to be oiled because the LED display will let you know. It does this after four hours of use. There's also an overfeed indicator on this display that can help you shred the right amount of paper for maximum performance.
* The 8600SC has a self-diagnostic system that can give a lot of information about the machine such as how much paper has been shredded, how long the machine's been in use, and so on.
* This product has a one-year warranty on everything except the cutting mechanism. That part is covered for the life of the machine.
And its weaknesses:
* Since the 8600SC is a strip-cut device, it doesn't have a very high security rating. In fact, it has a Level 2 rating, so while it's good for destroying everyday documents, highly classified items should be shredded in a machine with a higher security rating.
* This shredder is compatible with Formax's EvenFlowTM automatic oiling system. Unfortunately, this item is sold separately so if you want it, you'll have to shell out some extra cash.
Conclusion:
As long as you don't need the security of a cross-cut shredder and you're fine with the machine lacking an automatic oiler, the Formax FD 8600SC is the perfect shredder for most large offices. It's loaded with great features and it can shred a lot of paper at once. Get yours today!
