Is there an absolute truth from which we must all speak?
It is true that we all have different perception and recollections of experiences.
One of the funniest and yet enlightening exercises in this I have ever directly experienced was when I was going through police college in Australia.
We were having a lecture one day, nothing out of the ordinary for police college, when suddenly someone burst through the door, wrestled the lecturer and kidnapped him out of the room. Well needless to say we were all sitting there in shock yes note that I did not say that any of us budding police officers actually did anything to assist our poor lecturer oops fail!
But what happened next was the most intriguing. Another lecturer came in and asked us without discussing it with anyone else, write down in as much detail as you can what you just witnessed. It was to include the actions taken, clothing, what was said, distances and times etc.
So for the next 15 minutes we scribbled out what we observed, and then proceeded to exchange details.
All I can say is wow!! Just about everyone of us had written down something different. The kidnapper was wearing a blue shirt, or a red shirt or was it purple? He said Youre coming with me or did he say Come with me you bastard? The incident took place over 7 seconds or was it more like thirty? On and on it went with differences. And we were meant to be the next breed of super observant cops!!
It was amazing. But what it really went to show is that people take in information and recall that information differently. We all do.
The way we view our world is all just subjective according to our past, our values and our beliefs.
No one is right or wrong according to the way they perceive their world but what we do have to recognise is that we all view it differently, even things that appear as fact such as in the above example.
So in truth, there is no absolute truth. Truth is our truth based on how we see our world. That is all we have. And that is all we can speak.
If we feel something is our truth it is up to us to speak it, from the heart. Not to make it absolute and shut down everyones elses viewpoint, but to openly listen to anothers truth and accept that, and then offer our own truth the one we feel deep down inside.
Yes our truths maybe different but thats what colours our world. How boring would it be for all of us to have the same viewpoints on life!
When two people are communicating from the heart, their communication is pure. In fact the words do not matter. The true feeling is conveyed and that is the important point. From this position we can truly express our deepest emotions and feelings and they will be accepted. It is true that when you communicate from the heart your words will be accepted as you will automatically speak in terms of how you feel. After all no one can really deny or dispute how you feel! They may argue that you should not feel that way, but the feeling itself will hold true.
It is only when we come from a space of ego do we experience judgment and resistance from another. In fact resistance from another is your signpost that you are not speaking truly from the heart.
Think of a time when you shared your feelings from the heart with another. Can you recall their reaction or should I say non-reaction. It was accepted, even if it was hurtful.
Despite your greatest fears of how someone will receive your truth, you can be assured that your highest inner self is always guiding you to this space and you will be looked after. It is up to us to step into this space and experience this for ourselves.
Heartfelt truth telling requires great courage at times, especially when you have to tell someone you feel hurt or angry because of them, but it can lead to the most intimate of communions with another.
It leads to openness and ultimately love. It leads you both to more truth what a gift!
