*********************** ARTICLE START ***********************
This New Years Eve you'll find a lot of travelers going to Las Vegas to celebrate. Interestingly, one of the most popular things they like to do during this time is take a helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon.

From Vegas, you'll fly to the West Rim only. Lots of folks ask me if they can fly to the South Rim and you can't because it's too far for helicopters to fly to. If you want to do the South Rim, I suggest taking an airplane there.

There are two kinds of helicopter tours from which to choose. They are air-only and landing. Both go over Lake Mead and Hoover Dam except that the air-only will fly over the canyon and then head back to town while a landing tour will go to the top or bottom.

Champagne Toast!

The flights that go to the bottom are the most popular and come with a Champagne picnic. They depart every other hour from 7 a. M. To 3 p. M. One of the most exciting aspects of this tour is the descent, which lasts up to 15 minutes before the heli lands next to the Colorado River.

It's also common for travelers who want to go to the bottom to add a Colorado River boat tour to their package. If you take a flight that lands at the top, a popular add-on is the Grand Canyon Skywalk, which is famous for letting travelers walk 70 feet over the edge of the rim.

Now there are two kinds of helicopter tours from Las Vegas. They are basic and deluxe. Basic trips are less expensive because they depart from Boulder City, which is about a 35-minute shuttle ride from town. Deluxe tours, by contrast, depart from The Strip and include limousine pick up and drop off at your hotel.

Deluxe Flights

The other great thing about deluxe tours is that you get to fly over the entire Strip (from the Stratosphere Tower to The Luxor Hotel) on the way back from the Canyon. This, to my mind, is an incredible way to wrap up a trip to the canyon and to welcome in the New Year.

Please be aware that Las Vegas is especially busy during the New Year's holiday and that it's advised that you book your helicopter tour as soon as you can. I usually recommend doing this a week or two prior to departure time but in actuality it's best to lock down your seats immediately after you book your hotel room.

It's true, too, that prices do and will go up during New Year's. This applies to both hotel rooms and helicopter tours. The best way to beat the price increase is too book your tour online because this is where the cheapest rates are always posted. Also, make sure you complete your transaction on the website in order to qualify for that Web discount.

Conclusion

New Year's is an incredible time to take a Las Vegas helicopter tour to the Grand Canyon. If you really want to make it special, do a deluxe tour to the bottom of the Canyon. Not only will you get picked up and dropped off in a limousine, but you'll also get to fly over the Las Vegas Strip in once you come back. And remember to always complete your purchase online in order to qualify for that low Internet rate.
