"Wdsutil" is a registry file used in conjunction with "W32UIRes" and "binkw32" files. They are commonly associated with Windows 8 operating systems but are also in Windows XP, Vista, and 7. It is used to run programs such as antivirus programs, browsers, and other applications.
Causes
The main cause for getting this error is because of the broken or corrupted registry file. It can also be that the file is missing, due to the lack of regular PC maintenance, an improper shutdown, or a malware.
Corrupted file registry entry.
Virus or malware infection, particularly Trojan:Win32/Agent.AD
Hardware failure such as a bad hard drive
A program has deleted or replaced the file.
Common Error Messages
Here are some common errors associated with wdsutil.dll:
"Wdsutil.dll is missing."
"Cannot register wdsutil.dll"
Blue screen of death (BSOD)
"Cannot start Windows 8 Pro. A required component is missing: wdsutil.dll. Please install Windows 8 Pro again."
Error in Windows start up and registry
"This application failed to start because the file was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
When using specific programs, you may encounter errors such as:

Repairing Errors

Open the command prompt. Click on Start and type in "CMD" without the quotation marks.
A search result will displayed. Right click on the command prompt and click Run as Administrator.
In the command box, type in "regsvr32 /u wdsutil.dll" without the quotation marks, and hit enter. This will now unregister the file.
Now type in "regsvr32 /i wdsutil.dll" without the quotation marks and hit enter. This will now re-register the file.
Close the command prompt and restart your computer.
Do a Full System Scan in your computer.
Run a full system scan in your computer. Check for possible malware and virus infections. There is a chance that the issue is caused by a corrupted file from a malware. It strongly advised to do this at least once a week. Make sure that your antivirus is updated, too.
Check for Device Driver Updates.
Some system errors are caused by outdated device drivers – both software and hardware-related. Update all your drivers by going into the Microsoft website or directly into the manufacturer's website. It is important to download the correct version for your computer, too. To do this:
Click on Start.
In the search box, type in "Update Device Drivers"
Open Update Device Drivers by clicking on the search result.
This will now open the Device Manager.
Click on each of the option to expand it.
Right click on the icons in the expanded folder and click "Update Driver Software…"
You might need to restart your computer for the changes to take effect. You can also set your computer to automatically update your drivers. To do this,
Click on Start.
Click on Devices and Printers.
Right click on the driver that you wanted to automatically update.
Click on "Device Installation Settings"
On the new box, click "Yes, do this automatically (recommended)"
Click Save Changes and restart your computer.
Install available Windows Updates.
Because Microsoft is constantly updating their software, keeping your computer up-to-date is a must. These updates may include updates in the registry. Otherwise, it may cause issues. To do this:
Click Start.
Type in "Windows Update" and hit enter.
Install all available updates for your computer. Consider installing the optional updates.
Reinstall Operating System.
This may be the least priority in fixing the issue. Reinstall a new copy of Windows in your computer or repair Windows through the Windows installer CD.
Download "DLL" files fixer
The most common way to fix a dynamic link library file error is to install a dll error repair tool. There are lots of different dll fixers available for download in the internet. This is more convenient than looking into the registry and fixing it from there.
