Cow hide rugs are widely used across the globe for home decoration and for many other diverse uses. The great thing about them is that they are durable, affordable and are all time source of attraction because of their beauty and uniqueness. The process of tanning gives the cow hide flexibility which plays an important role in their uses. Moreover, tanning also enhances durability and protects them from decay. Pricing of cow hide rugs are based on the skinned animal, the processing and the style used in making the final product.

Cowhide rugs are best for all types of home decorations, from modern to traditional or an elegant one. They have a great quality and perform better than other rugs in high traffic areas like living room, TV room and kids room. This durability is elongated by proper cleaning and care. While carrying out the cleaning, they should be brushed carefully and rehydrated to keep them straight without forming curly edges. A cowhide rug should be rotated time to time to distribute traffic evenly. During spring season it should be laid in the sun for fresh ambience. Though cowhide is extraordinarily durable, too much use of water causes its decay. So, always be careful not to expose it to water. Always brush on it following the direction of hair and use soapy cloth or mop to clean spots. Brushing regularly helps its natural oils redistribution and fluffing up the hair. Sometimes improper tanning process causes the loss of natural oils in cowhide rugs thereby forming curly their edges. A little moist can also be used to help remove curls on the edges.

Cowhide rugs look great because of their elegant designs and styles. Natural patterns on cow hides make these rugs unique pieces which are very much desired all over the world. Cowhide rugs can be found from high quality naturals to many different types of breeds, in awesome animal prints to mineral dyed European coloured rugs. Patchwork rugs are also available in the market to cater for different aesthetic senses. Some cowhide rugs are patched in diverse styles to add elegance to the rugs. The designs are usually geometrical and hand crafted in a unique manner. Patches of different colours and shades are assembled together using the best quality resistant ribbon. The joints of the patches are then stitched together to give a neat look and to strongly join them together.

Sometimes cowhides are used purely without any dyeing process while some are dyed in different colours and styles to make them more elegant and for purposes of blending them with the room color. Most natural and pure cowhide rugs are always used without dying. Moreover, there are cowhide rugs whose reverse side is patched with soft suede material to make it level with the floor perfectly. Such a material fulfills the need of an underneath rug pad too.

Cow hide rugs are best used indoor. Folding a cow hide rug curls it. It is therefore advised that the user relax it on a flag ground after unfolding so that the creases can disappear. This might take a few days if the surface is not regularly used. Even though using steam iron on the reverse side is also an effective way to remove creases, leaving the rug laying flat on the floor is always recommended.

Common spills of wine, coffee, tea, foods, juices, vomit or urine just sponge it immediately or soak up with a paper towel whereas a solid item should be scraped gently with a blunt knife. Again, always work in the direction of the hair to avoid any damage to the rug. You can then use 5% white vinegar and 95% water solution to eliminate unpleasant odour.

If well maintained, it will last long and serve a great deal in adding beauty and style to your home or office.
