No matter what your operating system is, you're bound to encounter technical problems such as system errors, missing DLL files and corrupted drivers every time you use a computer. And so before you run into one of these issues, you should at least have an idea on what to do during these scenarios. To help you with that, here are three of the common computer-related blunders experienced by most PC users and its possible solutions.
1. You cannot connect to the internet.
Surfing the internet is one of the mostly used function of a computer. Thus, it is highly likely that a user has encountered at least one network connection error. This error is brought about by a lot of factors, which includes the following:
* hardware/software-related errors in the router
* incorrect configuration of the network and IP address
* erroneous setup of network cables
* frequency of time-outs and latency of the Internet Service Provider (ISP)
* firewall programs
You should check if your device is correctly setup in these parts. For instance, you must check if you have plugged the LAN cable in its correct socket. You may also try to check the latency of your ISP. However, if you think that solving these problems is too technical for you, you may contact your ISP's technical support.
Also, more often than not, the root cause of a network trouble is too simple that people usually overlook it. So before anything else, check if you have turned on your "LAN" access in your computer, and don't forget to plug and turn on your router (if you have any).
2. There is a lot of adware that pop up in your browser.
Did you notice a new toolbar in your browser even though you haven't installed anything? How about during your web browsing, did your browsing space suddenly become small because of the pop-up advertisements? If you experience any of these symptoms, your machine might be infected with adware.
An adware, short for advertising-supported software, is the culprit behind those popups in your browser. Apart from displaying unsolicited advertisements in your browser, it also collects information about your browsing habits. Most people are not okay with someone snooping in their internet activity without their knowledge, so using an anti-virus program is in order.
How did you get an adware in your PC? Most users like you spend their time surfing the internet. Therefore, there's a great chance that you might have downloaded a file which also triggered an adware download. Or maybe, you have visited a website which automatically infects a computer with an adware. To avoid having this annoying software, you should only visit websites that are trusted. Also as much as possible, avoid downloading content from unknown sources.
3. Your computer freezes a lot.
Most of the time, the reason behind most PC lags is that the user is not informed of what his/her computer is capable of doing. For instance, if you're just using a netbook, don't expect your device to run a resource-intensive program such as Photoshop or an online game.
However, even though your device has the specs to run an application with ease, your PC is still running slower than what is expected of it. A possible reason might be that you are not maintaining your system on a regular basis. If you don't clean up or defragment your system, then it is inevitable that your computer will perform poorly.
As such, it is recommended that you perform a basic maintenance checklist every month or year, depending on how frequent and how intensive you use your device. Your checklist should include running the Disk Clean Up and Disk Defragmenter utility tools pre-installed in the Windows platform. Also, to free up space in your hard drive, you should remove any rarely-used programs. Lastly, don't forget to take good care of your hardware.
If all else fails, then your device might probably be infected by a virus. To prevent such scenario, you should always run your anti-virus program whenever you plug in an external device or whenever you connect to the internet. Furthermore, you should always keep your anti-virus program up-to-date with the latest security patches and virus definitions.
Dealing with PC problems doesn't mean that you always have to consult a computer technician. In fact, what most people don't know is that these technical issues can be solved by an average user. The key here is to know the tips and tricks on how to fix these problems and most importantly, how to prevent them.
