A bakers rack can add style, elegance, and storage to any kitchen. Whether you do not have enough kitchen cabinets or counter spaces, or you just need a place to display some of your favorite dishes and glassware, a bakers rack is certainly the perfect solution for utility. Most racks are metal, although wood is quickly catching up as a second material used for these racks. No matter which kind of material you choose, there are still some important things to keep in mind when shopping for a bakers rack.
Style
One of the most important things to consider when it comes to choosing a bakers rack is style. The rack that does not offer the same sort of look as your current kitchen will only look out of place. A very modern kitchen needs a very modern chrome or steel rack, while a country kitchen will need one with a lot of metal work on it. Just think about the style of your kitchen and consider how the bakers rack will look with your furniture, appliances, and kitchen cabinets.
Size
The size of the bakers rack is also extremely important. Kitchens have the potential to be very open, airy spaces, or they can quickly become too cramped where there are too many things in a space that is too small. Of course these racks are meant to add extra storage space, but one that is too big will only make your kitchen feel cluttered. Before you go shopping, take the time to measure the amount of space you have available for the bakers rack. Think about length, width, and height of the rack. Length and width will depend on how much space is available in your kitchen, while height depends on how tall you are and the height you can reach easily. Avoid getting a rack that is so much taller than you that you have trouble reaching the top shelf.
Some baker's racks are made to go in a corner. This can help with the space issue so many people have in their kitchens. A corner baker's rack really helps utilize a very small corner space and add functionality where space might otherwise have been wasted. Also sometimes a corner baker's rack is a bit sturdier because it has the support of two walls instead of just one.
Use
It is also very important to think about the kinds of things you plan to store on the baker's rack. Some racks only have wire shelving, while others have full shelves that can be used to place small things on. If you plan to store thin items like champagne glasses, then you will need full shelves that will not allow the glasses to slip through them.
Construction
Another important consideration to make is the construction of the rack. Some racks do not feel very sturdy, and this can be a very bad thing if you plan to store breakable objects on the rack. Just spend some time touching the rack and shaking it a bit to see how sturdy it is. You might even consider looking for a rack that comes with storage baskets. This will allow you to hide a few items away while still keeping a very stylish and classic look inside your kitchen. Some baker's racks even have a drawer or two, which is even more convenient. However, these racks do tend to be a bit larger, so make sure that you have enough space. Also take extra care that the rack is able to support the weight of the drawer, even when it has several items in it.
