This is a question that gets asked a lot as it appears more and more younger people are looking at ways of whitening the teeth.
In the modern age of TV,films, magazines, catwalks and every high profile star having glaring white teeth then the expectation is set and like having a great body, wardrobe it is the turn of teeth whitening to help the younger generation fulfil their desire to look like the rich and famous.
So why is it that young people are getting so badly stained teeth?
Generally there is no straight forward answer to this question but the combination of lifestyle diets including tea, coffee and fizzy drinks like cola are all contributing to having stained teeth. A lot of young people smoke and with the enamel still in the development stage until the age of eighteen this can really absorb the nicotine in to the pores of the enamel and give them a yellowish colouration.
For young people under the age of eighteen but over fifteen they might want to consider low strength home kits which will gently whiten the teeth but without any damage to the developing enamel. This will take longer to whiten the teeth but also gets young people in to the habit of using a whitening kit every few weeks which will hold them in good stead when they get in to their twenties and thirties.
Over eighteen years old you might want to look at laser teeth whitening as an option. This treatment only takes 60 minutes and generally works around six to ten shades lighter. In the UK this type of treatment will cost around 250 by a professional organisation.
With the laser method the gel is placed on the teeth and then the light is switched on to start the gel working and effectively activates the solution to open the pores of the enamel to release the staining. This method being used more and more because of the convenience factor. Also after the laser treatment the recipient only needs to keep away from staining components like smoking, tea, coffee, red wine, curries etc for 48 hours when the micro pores close and teeth become less absorbent.
Sometimes a challenge with the younger teeth whitening client is the high expectations which comes with the aforementioned in this article. Everyone cannot have the Hollywood smile so keeping your expectations in check is essential otherwise for some there could be disappointment at the end of the day. Everyone has an optimum point at which their teeth can be whitened and you cannot over-whiten them as some people think.
Making the best use of research of the internet can be a good place to start and if money is tight then go for a home whitening kit and see how it works for you before you embark on a expensive journey.
Also see your dentist regularly and have a regular hygienist appointment as this will keep the plague away and good dental health normally goes hand in hand with a whiter healthy looking smile
